The venomous beauty

The Blue-ringed Octopus

What is beautiful, tiny, has blue rings, can kill you and hangs around Siladen?

Easy, it’s the blue-ringed octopus, which has been a common sight around Siladen and Bunaken past few weeks. The other night Siladen Resort & Spa’s dive guide Jemmy went diving with divers from Singapore and he found THREE blue-ringed octopuses on Siladen Jetty dive site. Very cool!

Yesterday was also a very nice day for the American group, who were lucky enough to see that venomous beauty twice the same day. First in the morning in Bunaken Fukui that tiny octopus was hiding in the corals and the same evening on a night dive in Siladen Jetty those divers were spoiled to see the blue-ringed again. Amazing! And on the same dive they also saw a Harlequin Shrimp, so very nice dive indeed.

Blue-ringed octopus is one of the deadliest marine creatures in the world. There’s no antidote to it’s poison. The octopus has yellowish skin and blue and black rings. When blue-ringed the octopus is agitated, the brown patches darken dramatically. If the blue-ringed octopus is provoked, it can bite the attacker, even human. So remember: just looking!
