Whale shark!

Whale shark in Bunaken National Park

What makes diving so unique and wonderful sport? Because you never know what you gonna see under the surface. The oceans are so big and too deep to even understand, and few days ago Siladen Resort & Spa’s divers were positively surprised by the visit of the biggest fish of the planet Earth.

Yes, I am talking about the whale shark. Bunaken National Park’s Montehage island has a dive site called Barracuda point, and divers with their guides left there to see the massive school of barracudas.

But this time the barracudas weren’t there and Silden’s dive guides were looking around to spot them. American and Italian divers were taking pictures of the sponges and other marine life when they suddenly heard that their guides were trying to get their attention. And none of them could believe their eyes when they saw this massive, huge, enormous shark swimming pass them.

Whale shark can grow to be 12 meters long and weight more than 20 tons, and this individual wasn’t far from it. Plankton eating whale shark is not very common thing to see here in Bunaken National Marine Park because they only travel through this area. Or so we know… What happens in the depths of the ocean, we can never really know the truth.

And yes, all this happened on my day off. Well, tomorrow is another day, another opportunities to find something new and rare.
